A reminder to all that this Friday, 14th February is Inset Day and we return to school Monday 24th February 2020 after half term.

Welcome to St Mary's C.E. Middle School

Thank you for visiting the website for St. Mary's C.E. Middle School. We are a 9-13 middle school situated on the outskirts of Puddletown, a small village in the beautiful Dorset countryside. We are a church school with an ethos built on the core Christian values of respect, forgiveness, justice, uniqueness, equality and acceptance.

Our aim is to give every pupil the chance to achieve their God given potential in all areas of their life and we are proud to have been assessed as an outstanding church school in our last two Church of England inspections. We expect the highest standards in both academic work and behaviour and we place our children at the centre of everything we do.

The pupils, staff and governors are very proud of our school and we hope that this website will allow you to see why. We look forward to having the opportunity to meet you in person.

School CD Project

Now That's What I Call a St. Mary's Christmas 2017

We hope you enjoy a short sample of the Christmas CD recorded by St. Mary's C.E. Middle School. It is available for 6.99 from the school office whilst stocks last.

On Tuesday 21st November, the pupils of St Mary's Middle School will be recording our first ever Christmas CD.  Classes have been busy practicing their songs and getting ready for the big day.  To help with this, we have included some of the backing tracks to help with singing along at home.  Most of the links are from You Tube.

Backing Track for the 12 days of Christmas

We have created our own special version of the song 12 days of Christmas. You can use the words to the final verse to work out what we will be singing.
On the Twelfth day of Christmas,
My teacher gave to me:
Twelve lines to learn,
Eleven charcoal drawings,
Ten book suggestions,
Nine hard equations,
Eight science sessions,
Seven lengths of swimming,
Six sewing needles,
Five gold stars.
Four homework tasks,
Three French verbs,
Two house points,
And a part in the school CD.

Backing Track for Good King Wenceslas

Remember, pupils in Key Stage 3 are singing the part of the King, Key Stage 2 are singing the part of the page and everyone sings the part of the narrator.

(All)Good king Wenceslas looked out
On the Feast of Stephen,
When the snow lay round about
Deep and crisp and even,
Brightly shone the moon that night
Though the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight
Gathering winter fuel.

(KS3)‘Hither, page and stand by me
If you know it telling,
Yonder poor man who is he
Where and what his dwelling?’
(KS2)‘Sir, he lives a good way hence
Underneath the mountain,
Right against the forest fence
By Saint Agnes’ fountain.

(KS3)‘Bring me food and bring me wine
Bring me pine logs hither,
You and I will see him dine
When we take them thither.’
(All)Page and monarch forth they went
Forth they went together,
Through the wild wind’s loud lament
And the bitter weather.

(KS2)‘Sir, the night is darker now
And the wind grows stronger,
Fails my heart I know not how
I can go no longer’.
(KS3)‘Mark my footsteps well, my page,
follow in them boldly,
You shall find the winter’s rage
Chills your blood less coldly.

(All)In his master’s steps he trod
Where the snow lay dented,
Strong to do the will of God
In the hope of heaven.
Therefore Christians, all be sure
Grace and wealth possessing,
You that now will bless the poor
Shall yourselves find blessing.

Backing Track for We Three Kings

The whole school will only be singing the chorus. The verses will be performed by a selection of boy soloists. The words to the chorus are shown below.

O Star of wonder, star of night
Star with royal beauty bright
Westward leading, still proceeding
Guide us to Thy perfect light

Once in Royal David's City Hymn (Piano)

A soloist will sing the first verse and the rest of the school will sing the remainder of the hymn together.
