Welcome to St Mary's C.E. Middle School

Thank you for visiting the website for St. Mary's C.E. Middle School. We are a 9-13 middle school situated on the outskirts of Puddletown, a small village in the beautiful Dorset countryside. We are a church school with an ethos built on the core Christian values of respect, forgiveness, justice, uniqueness, equality, acceptance and kindness.

We look to inspire our school community and give them the tools to thrive in the modern world, summed up by our school aim of 'Inspire today to shape tomorrow'. We are proud to have been assessed as an outstanding church school in our last two Church of England inspections. We expect the highest standards in both academic work and behaviour and we place our children at the centre of everything we do.

The pupils, staff and governors are very proud of our school and we hope that this website will allow you to see why. We look forward to having the opportunity to meet you in person.

Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day 2020 #freetobe

Here are the selection of videos that were put together as part of the 2020 Safer Internet Day on 11th February.  We shared some of these with the pupils in PSHCE lessons.  We have included them here so that you can use them at home to reinforce the key messages from the day.

How can parents and carers talk to children about their online lives?

We asked young people across the UK for their thoughts on online identity and how we can all support each other to have healthy, positive experiences online. One of the most important questions we had to ask was: "how can parents and carers talk to children about their online lives?"

Safer Internet Day 2019 #consent

Here are the selection of videos that were put together as part of the 2019 Safer Internet Day on 5th February.  We shared some of these with the pupils in PSHCE lessons.  We have included them here so that you can use them at home to reinforce the key messages from the day.

SID TV 2019: Consent Online - film for 14-18 year olds

We visited Uffculme school to ask a group of pupils about giving and receiving consent online in a series of situations from their daily lives. Conversations centered around some of the more complex scenarios that young people might face online. The thought provoking topics encouraged in-depth discussions about consent in a connected world.

SID TV 2019: 'Surf' feat. Christian Foley - film for 11-14 year olds

"Surf" is a music video featuring spoken word artist Christian Foley and dancers from the Street Factory hip hop studio in Plymouth. The film encourages consideration of both the consent we give and the consent we ask from others in a connected world. Christian is a musician, poet, writer and teacher.

SID TV 2019: Your Choice or Mine - film for parents and carers

We put young people and their parents head-to-head in a game show and asked them questions about consent online. We wanted to find out if parents and their children have the same or differing opinions on a range of online consent topics.
