Welcome to St Mary's C.E. Middle School

Thank you for visiting the website for St. Mary's C.E. Middle School. We are a 9-13 middle school situated on the outskirts of Puddletown, a small village in the beautiful Dorset countryside. We are a church school with an ethos built on the core Christian values of respect, forgiveness, justice, uniqueness, equality and acceptance.

Our aim is to give every pupil the chance to achieve their God given potential in all areas of their life and we are proud to have been assessed as an outstanding church school in our last two Church of England inspections. We expect the highest standards in both academic work and behaviour and we place our children at the centre of everything we do.

The pupils, staff and governors are very proud of our school and we hope that this website will allow you to see why. We look forward to having the opportunity to meet you in person.

Rainbow Art Competition

St. Mary's CE Middle School April Art Competition

The theme for the new Art competition is 'Rainbows'.

Rainbows are a strong visual image.

Scientifically, rainbows are a natural phenomenon that occur after rainstorms, they are caused by reflecting light against water. But spiritually, symbolically and emotionally they take on an entirely different meaning.

Rainbows can be said to represent rebirth, hope and growth that comes from challenge and adversity. This can be seen in the Hawaiian proverb “No rain, no rainbow” and in the song ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’.

More recently this can also be seen in the practice by children of creating rainbows to put in their windows to give people hope and to make people feel positive during these challenging times of the Coronavirus.

The competition:

  • Create an artwork about what Rainbows mean to you, to other people or the world. Think carefully about rainbows from a visual and symbolic point of view.
  • The artwork can be in any medium and any size. Just go for it!
  • Prizes will be given for the top ones in each year group.
  • Please submit scanned or photographed entries via the school office email (office@stmaryscemiddle.uk) by Monday May 11th. When school starts please bring the originals in as the artwork will make a fantastic display when we all return to St.Mary’s!
