Welcome to St Mary's C.E. Middle School

Thank you for visiting the website for St. Mary's C.E. Middle School. We are a 9-13 middle school situated on the outskirts of Puddletown, a small village in the beautiful Dorset countryside. We are a church school with an ethos built on the core Christian values of respect, forgiveness, justice, uniqueness, equality, acceptance and kindness.

We look to inspire our school community and give them the tools to thrive in the modern world, summed up by our school aim of 'Inspire today to shape tomorrow'. We are proud to have been assessed as an outstanding church school in our last two Church of England inspections. We expect the highest standards in both academic work and behaviour and we place our children at the centre of everything we do.

The pupils, staff and governors are very proud of our school and we hope that this website will allow you to see why. We look forward to having the opportunity to meet you in person.

Message regarding announcement by Boris Johnson on Sunday 10th May

Dear Parents and Carers,

Following tonight’s statement by the Prime Minister which indicated possible changes to school provision from June 1st, this is a short note to urge caution around what you tell your children, especially children in Year 6 whom the Prime Minister referenced this evening.  At the moment, it is too early to speculate if that date is achievable for a safe partial re-opening to more students than at present. Furthermore, in a three tier system such as ours, it is not necessarily Year 6 who will return first.

Until that time, for the safety of all involved, the existing arrangements remain in place.  Many parents, students and staff are nervous about more people in school and this will not happen yet.  We will also need time to consider and plan for an increase in numbers attending school, in particular with regards to social distancing but also additional cleaning routines, staggered lesson changeovers and break and lunchtimes, transport arrangements etc.

Naturally, we all want to be back together, however, safety must come first.  Anyone with questions, should contact the school office on 01305 848293 or by email on

We continue to stand with you at this time and will continue to provide all our learning at a distance as we have established; school is operating as a childcare provision only for those key worker children who have no safe alternative and pupils from families classed as vulnerable.  We thank you for your ongoing cooperation in these challenging times.

Keep safe,

Mr. Darren Ayling
