Welcome to St Mary's C.E. Middle School

Thank you for visiting the website for St. Mary's C.E. Middle School. We are a 9-13 middle school situated on the outskirts of Puddletown, a small village in the beautiful Dorset countryside. We are a church school with an ethos built on the core Christian values of respect, forgiveness, justice, uniqueness, equality, acceptance and kindness.

We look to inspire our school community and give them the tools to thrive in the modern world, summed up by our school aim of 'Inspire today to shape tomorrow'. We are proud to have been assessed as an outstanding church school in our last two Church of England inspections. We expect the highest standards in both academic work and behaviour and we place our children at the centre of everything we do.

The pupils, staff and governors are very proud of our school and we hope that this website will allow you to see why. We look forward to having the opportunity to meet you in person.

Information about School Residential Trips for 2020/2021

Information Regarding School Trips

Pencelli (Wales) Residential Trip ~ Updated Thursday 30th July 2020

The following is the current guidance from the government regarding educational visits.

We continue to advise against domestic (UK) overnight and overseas educational visits at this stage.  In the autumn term, schools can resume non-overnight domestic educational visits.

This trip has been POSTPONED until 28th March 2021-2nd April 2021

We have therefore taken the decision that we will not be able to proceed with the planned visit to Plas Pencelli that had been scheduled for 22nd-27th November 2020.  To ensure that this group of pupils do not miss out on the experience of the Pencelli trip we have arranged for this group to go in a slot we had previously reserved which will be Sunday 28th March 2021 to 2nd April 2021 (providing the guidance allows us to travel at this time).  We will not be issuing refunds for this trip and will instead carry over the payments already made (if you would like a refund, please contact  We will notify you if there will be any increase in cost due to the trip now taking place in a new academic year.

Other trips and visits

  • We regret that we are not running any other residential trips during this academic year.  Consequently, there will be no Year 6 PGL residential this year or Year 8 French Trip in 2020/2021.
  • The school is keen to participate in our long-established program of day-trips to support the taught curriculum and we are currently risk assessing each activity to establish if they will be safe to run.  Details of this will be sent out in the first few weeks of the new academic year.
