Thank you for visiting the website for St. Mary's C.E. Middle School. We are a 9-13 middle school situated on the outskirts of Puddletown, a small village in the beautiful Dorset countryside. We are a church school with an ethos built on the core Christian values of respect, forgiveness, justice, uniqueness, equality, acceptance and kindness.
We look to inspire our school community and give them the tools to thrive in the modern world, summed up by our school aim of 'Inspire today to shape tomorrow'. We are proud to have been assessed as an outstanding church school in our last two Church of England inspections. We expect the highest standards in both academic work and behaviour and we place our children at the centre of everything we do.
The pupils, staff and governors are very proud of our school and we hope that this website will allow you to see why. We look forward to having the opportunity to meet you in person.
The curriculum at St. Mary's C.E. Middle is designed to give pupils a broad and balanced experience, having a mix of practical and non-practical based subjects in all year groups. As an academy, we follow the programme of study as set out in the national curriculum. We also ensure that our curriculum is matched to our feeder first schools curriculums to avoid any repetition of topics. The curriculum builds throughout years 5 to 8 to ensure that pupils are fully prepared to continue their studies at their chosen upper school.
As a middle school, we are able to offer pupils subject specific teaching in subjects such as Art, Design Technology, Science, P.E. and Music (which pupils will encounter two years earlier than in the traditional primary/secondary model of education). The school has specialist teaching facilities dedicated to Art, Design Technology (Cooking and Nutrition, Resistant Materials and Textiles), Music, P.E. and Science. Pupils also will benefit from subject specialist teachers in many of these areas.
The links below will give you further information about each of the curriculum subjects and also the breakdown of the time spent on each subject in the different year groups.
Shown below are a range of general interest websites that can help with a range of subjects. These web-sites also contain a lot of material that can just be viewed for fun. Please let us know if you find any other websites that would be useful to list here.
